Mental Hygiene: Why I Stopped Watching the News and Found Balance Again
For over 15 years, I’ve made a conscious decision: I no longer watch television or 24/7 news channels. It’s a form of mental hygiene that has become essential to my balance.
We are deeply influenced by the images we consume and the words we hear. They imprint themselves within us—often unconsciously—shaping our thoughts, emotions, and even our behaviors.
There was a time when constant exposure to anxiety-inducing news left me feeling overwhelmed and ungrounded. It even affected my well-being, leading to compulsive eating habits.
Today, I choose to stay informed in a minimal and intentional way, through simple news notifications. It’s more than enough—and above all, it protects me.
Since adopting this approach, I feel calmer, more aligned, more present. My mind is clearer, my body more at ease.
Because what we see influences what we think. As Lao Tzu once said:
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become your character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
Stepping away from constant screen exposure allows me to reconnect with what truly matters: creating, feeling, sharing.
Baking, playing music, walking in nature, enjoying meals with friends… and embracing my sensuality.
By returning to what is essential, I become the author of my own life again—cultivating a softer, more conscious, more vibrant energy, within and around me.
